Frequently Asked Questions About Our Reptile Shows
How long does a Snake Tails show last?
Our standard school incursions run for approximately 45-60 minutes, which works well for most timetables. For preschool and early childhood groups, we typically run shorter sessions of 30-45 minutes to suit younger attention spans. We’re flexible and can adjust timing to fit your school’s schedule and requirements. Just let us know your preferences when you book.
What reptiles will students see and interact with?
Students will meet a variety of Australian reptiles including pythons, blue-tongue lizards, turtles, and other native species. We’re also excited to introduce our new baby saltwater crocodile to the shows. All reptiles used for hands-on interaction are carefully selected non-venomous species that are calm and suitable for student engagement. Every interaction is supervised by Anthony to ensure safety and comfort for both students and animals.
Is the show suitable for all year levels?
Absolutely. We’ve been delivering reptile shows to NSW schools for over 30 years, covering everything from preschool to Year 12. Our content is specifically tailored to each learning stage and aligned with the appropriate NSW Science syllabus outcomes. Preschool and Early Stage 1 programs focus on basic needs and characteristics, primary school programs cover habitats and adaptations, and high school programs delve into classification, biology, genetics, and toxicology.
How does the show address snake safety?
Every Snake Tails performance includes comprehensive snake safety education as a core component. This supports the Department’s Snakes in Schools Policy and provides students with practical, potentially life-saving knowledge. We teach what to do when encountering snakes in school grounds or at home, provide first aid demonstrations, and reinforce approved procedures. For young children, we present safety concepts in simple, age-appropriate terms. For older students, we discuss more detailed safety protocols and emergency responses.
Is the show curriculum-aligned?
Yes, absolutely. Our programs are carefully designed to align with the NSW Science and Technology Syllabus, specifically the Living World component. We address specific outcomes for each stage, from Early Stage 1 through to Stage 5. Teachers consistently praise Snake Tails for delivering content that directly supports classroom learning while keeping students genuinely engaged. We can also tailor presentations to focus on particular curriculum areas or topics you’re covering
How far in advance should we book?
We recommend booking as early as possible to secure your preferred date, especially during busy periods like Science Week, World Environment Day, or end of term. However, we understand that schedules can change, and we’ll always do our best to accommodate short-notice requests where possible. Contact Anthony on 0493 380 965 to discuss availability and secure your booking.
What do we need to provide at our school?
We bring everything needed for the show, including all reptiles and equipment. You simply need to provide a suitable indoor space such as a hall, gymnasium, or large classroom where students can sit comfortably and see clearly. We’ll discuss any specific access or setup requirements when you book. Most schools find the setup process straightforward and stress-free.
Can you tailor the show for special events?
Yes, we’re happy to customise our presentation to suit special occasions or focus on particular topics. Whether you’re celebrating World Environment Day, Science Week, or another event, we can adjust our content accordingly. We can also emphasise specific aspects of the Living World curriculum or particular reptile species if that supports your teaching goals. Just let us know your requirements when booking.
What areas do you service?
